Persistence is key!
In 2022, I made it to the final 100 applicants for The Network to kickstart my television career by attending the Edinburgh TV Festival, but I didn’t make it.
So, I reapplied in 2023, and once again I was in the final 100. Travelled to London for the final assessment day with all the familiar feelings from the year before, but I finally did it!

The masterclass I was part of was led by ITV Daytime producers who helped us to create a live show for the rest of The Network delegates. I was part of the VT group and we created three VTs between us on hot topics being discussed at The Festival itself. My group created a short clip on whether AI would take over the television industry and out of those we interviewed, many said that it could benefit the industry but would not be able to do their job, which is great news for us newbies!
Our show was presented by GMB’s Polly Bartlett, with special guests Ade Adepitan and Rosie Jones!
One of our first sessions was held by Arthur Bruel discussing his documentary, The Black Alien Project.
The 2023 MacTaggart lecture was delivered by Louis Theroux!
The budding scriptwriters of The Network delegates drafted a three-part scene for EastEnders actors Scott Maslen and Rudolph Walker!
Claudia Winkleman won the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Edinburgh TV Festival Awards!
The final session of the week was the Alternative MacTaggart with Meera Syal!
