“I think it’s time we open up, and get rid of ‘Lok Ki Kenghe’ for good.”

— Somandeep Kaur Kandola

This phrase is SO old and I hate it. And there are so many variations in other Asian languages that it becomes damaging to one’s mental health. Why is it that us Asians are so obsessed with other people and their families, when you’re own are probably receiving the same treatment?! Life is not a competition. Life is about living, celebrating each other and supporting those in need. And that’s why I made this documentary.

Ever since I finished filming with my parents, I was always grateful for them giving up their time to accommodate my needs and requirements and honestly it was quite fun! I also made sure that they were the first ones to see the finished edit.

If you ever have the time to sit down with your parents to talk about their childhood, I would totally recommend it! I learnt so much, even though I grew up knowing a little bit of how life was for my parents back when they were kids, it was really interesting to hear their point of views about everything I asked about in my documentary!

So if you have a spare twenty minutes, why not learn something new? Or expand on something you have already grown up with? Because what’s the point of having knowledge if you can’t pass it on to someone else? We won’t be able to change the world if we don’t bring up the negative things in life!
